What’s the most fun way to exercise?

Let’s be real—fun is underrated in fitness. Most people still think exercise has to be intense, painful, or part of some rigid routine. But honestly? The best kind of movement is the kind that makes you forget you’re working out.

Whether it’s dancing in your kitchen, hiking a trail, boxing out your stress, or rollerblading down the boardwalk—movement should feel like play. Because when you’re having fun, your nervous system chills out, your brain lights up, and your body naturally wants to keep going. That’s the sweet spot for longevity.

Lately though, one activity has been getting a ton of love across all ages: Pickleball.

Yeah, that’s right—what started as a “retiree” sport has turned into a full-blown national movement. I recently read that nearly 13% of the U.S. population is now playing pickleball. That’s wild! As someone who used to play basketball competitively, I will be honest, I hated walking into a gym to see older people playing pickleball… but as I got older I realized how crucial it is to have better access to sport activities for older adults and even those younger adults who don’t want to play contact sports as much, because we know movement is medicine!

Now I get excited watching people compete in pickleball and it’s beautiful to see. Pickleball is bringing together generations—grandparents, young adults, teens, even whole families—and reminding us what it looks like to move for joy and connection, not just performance.

But here’s the chiropractor in me stepping in:

With its surge in popularity, I’m also seeing an increase in injuries—especially in folks who jump in without building foundational strength. Pickleball requires quick lateral movement, joint stability, and coordination. When underdeveloped muscles are overworked, it’s a recipe for strains, sprains, and inflammation.

So here’s some food for thought:

Why do we have entire infrastructures dedicated to youth sports, but so few accessible, community-based facilities for adults to play like this—consistently, safely, and socially?

We need more leagues. More courts. More adult rec spaces. Because people want to move. They just need the environment to make it sustainable.

Now you:

What’s your go-to fun way to move your body these days? Tried pickleball yet?

Let’s keep this conversation flowing in the comments or DM me—I’d love to hear what gets you moving with joy.
