BREAKING FREE FROM OUR DAILY HABITS & EXCUSES
By Dr. John D.C., Holistic Health Coach

Introduction:

Every day, we wake up with the potential to become the person we aspire to be. But all too often, we fall back into habits that hold us back, keeping us from living the life we know we deserve. It’s easy to feel stuck, doing enough to get by, but not truly thriving.

What if we made different choices? What if, instead of living in a hypnotic state, we became intentional about our health, happiness, and purpose?

Join me on this journey as we break free from old habits, raise our self-awareness, and start creating the life we’re meant to live. Together, we’ll focus on improving our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being with simple, consistent actions.

In this blog, you’ll discover:

Let’s start creating the life we’ve always wanted—together.

The Person We Want to Be:

Every day, we wake up with the potential to become the person we want to be. Yet, more often than not, we find ourselves stuck in the same loop—hitting the snooze button, rushing out the door, living on autopilot, and telling ourselves, “Tomorrow will be different.” But will it?

If I’m being completely honest with you, I’m not where I want to be either. Every morning, I promise myself I’ll wake up early, tackle the day head-on, and start building a better routine. And yet, there I am, snoozing through half the morning, scrambling just to make it to work on time. Life can feel relentless. We grind all day long, give what we have left to family or friends, and collapse on the couch, grateful for a moment of escape into a TV show. Sound familiar?

But here’s the real question: What are we avoiding? Why do we choose to put ourselves on the back burner while prioritizing everyone and everything else? Are we afraid of working hard and seeing minimal results? Or maybe we’re just stuck in the habits that have brought us comfort, even if they don’t serve us anymore.

We get by, but we’re not thriving. And why is that? I believe it’s because we’ve hypnotized ourselves into living life based on feelings and habits instead of intentionally creating the life we deserve.

Living on Autopilot vs. Living with Purpose

You’ve heard it before: “You can’t control how your life starts, but you’re responsible for how it ends.” That quote always comes to mind when I feel stuck in life. None of us can control the challenges we’re born into or the unexpected events that happen, but we absolutely have control over how we respond. Our thoughts, emotions, and actions are within our power to change—if we choose to.

But that’s where we get stuck, right? In the choosing. It’s easy to get caught up in the grind, the routine, the mindset of “I’ll do better tomorrow.” We allow the days to slip by because we’re too focused on what’s wrong with life and what we don’t have. We let our dissatisfaction guide us. And hey, I get it. I’ve been there too. I’m still there some days.

Yet, it’s in those moments of frustration that we need to take a step back and shift our focus. Instead of dwelling on what’s missing, what if we started looking at the good that’s already in front of us? Sure, the economy might be tough right now, and life might feel heavy, but you’ve still got something to be grateful for, right? Maybe it’s that TV show you look forward to watching tonight. Maybe it’s your family. Maybe it’s just the fact that you woke up this morning. The point is, the more we focus on what we have, the more we open ourselves to opportunities for growth.

Shifting from Victim to Victor

One thing I’ve learned is that we can’t rely on others to make us happy. It’s our own job to find purpose and fulfillment. Sure, life throws us challenges, and it’s easy to fall into the victim mentality. But if we stay there, we miss out on our true potential.

Life is full of signs and opportunities. Whether you believe in God, the universe, or something else, those signs are constantly showing up. But it’s on us to read them, to take action, and to transform our failures into fuel for success. I refuse to let my failures define me, and I know you feel the same way.

We should be judged not by our mistakes, but by how we recover and grow from them. Whether it’s in our physical health, our relationships, or our financial situation, the power to change is in our hands. We just need to stop waiting for the perfect moment and start creating it.

How Do We Unlock Our Potential?

Think about it—what we’re doing right now isn’t working. We’re surviving, but are we thriving? To truly unlock our potential, we need to harness a different mindset, one that focuses on intentional growth and self-awareness.

The more we focus on improving our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being, the more we can free ourselves from the stress, anxiety, and dis-ease that plague so many of us. So, let’s start small and build momentum.

Here are three things I pledge to do for the next 30 days to prove that with consistent action, we can manifest better health, success, and happiness in our lives:

  1. Walk 10,000-12,000 steps a day (Anything over 5,000 is a great start—let’s do this together!)
  2. Wake up an hour earlier than I usually do. This will set the tone for a productive day. I’ll use this time to focus on my mobility drills, write in my journal, and get into a positive headspace before the world wakes up.
  3. Spend 15 minutes daily with my wife (or someone you love), fully present, without any electronics. I’ll use this time to connect, praise, and strengthen our bond. Yes, we can still watch that favorite TV show together, but it’s important to make time to genuinely connect with our loved ones.

These three steps cover our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Whether it’s through prayer, meditation, or simply spending time with someone you care about, spiritual health is often the missing piece in our overall wellness, and it’s time to prioritize it.

The Pain Is Worth the Reward

I’ll leave you with some powerful words from one of my favorite motivational speakers, Eric Thomas: “We all go through pain—get a reward for yours.” We’ve all faced hardships, and I could spend all day telling you about the trauma and struggles I’ve experienced. But at some point, I realized that if I was going to go through that pain, I might as well turn it into something positive, something that pushes me toward my dreams.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to stop living in autopilot and start creating the life you’ve been dreaming about. Wake up tomorrow and be the person you envision. The only thing standing between you and that future is the choice you make today.
